“If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s (or woman’s) life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.”

Awareness: The Perils & Opportunities of Reality by Anthony De Mello

image According to Anthony De Mello, spirituality is waking up.  This is one of the best and the most succinct definitions of spirituality I have come across.

His book, Awareness: The Perils and Opportunities of Reality is a must for any awareness and consciousness library alongside Eckhart Tolle’s, A New Earth and Don Miguel Ruiz’s, The Four Agreements.  De Mello provides much insight into the world of awareness, consciousness, ethics and spirituality.

De Mello was an original interfaith teacher with rich understandings derived from Hindu, Buddhist and Christian traditions as well as psychological insight.  This book is a true wake up call for our times and for those who are willing to take personal responsibility for their impact on the world.  Ultimately, his message is one of hope and exciting possibility, that in our time, there can in fact be peace on earth.

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

image Tolle’s highly recommended book on the subject of awareness and the power of Now is an excellent read for anyone seeking to transform their life, to give it meaning and purpose.

We are responsible for the thoughts we hold, the actions we take and the words we use. The ego is forever out of the box and into the light!  We can now see in a completely new way; a way we can actually put into practice.  We are able to take control of our lives and be all we are here to be.

End the Struggle and Dance With Life, by Susan Jeffers PhD.

The title really says it all. How often do we describe ourselves as “struggling”? I first became aware of this book when a dear friend of mine recommended it. I had just left a 5-year relationship and was searching for some understanding, some meaning to what had happened. I wanted to understand my part in the relationship and how it contributed to a relationship “gone bad”.

What she had to say was just what I needed to hear. She reveals how we unconsciously live our lives from fear and thus contribute to our own oppression. The quotes sprinkled liberally throughout the book were very much to the point and thought provoking. I found this book had a profound impact on my understanding of who I am and who I wanted to become more of.

Her message is powerful one - when we let go of outmoded ideas and habits, life really becomes a dance and not a struggle. It puts us squarely in the driver’s seat of our lives and encourages us to make the shifts that we need to make our lives joyous and fulfilling.

I highly recommend this book as an excellent tool for reclaiming a life of authenticity and liberation. This book represents one of the significant “building blocks” of my life.

Barb has been a true inspiration in my life. I first went to Barb seeking truth, meaning, and spiritual guidance. She gave me unconditional acceptance, and provided me with tools to create and implement a daily spiritual practice...one that I could claim as my own.  This daily practice has been a grounding source for me and has helped me discover an inner strength I didn’t know existed.
